We've been in business for 16 years but this is was our newer location established in October of 2017 -- we had many visitors to our show room for free hot dogs, a chance to win door prizes (win a beautiful hearth rug, a fireplace tool kit, or a bag of fat wood kindling) and all who enter the raffle get 10 percent off a wood stove, fireplace insert, or fireplace! 1470 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, El Prado NM.

Victor Salazar from the Hondo-Seco Volunteer Fire Department said crews responded to the blaze around 7 p.m. Sunday. He said a male resident got out of the house and was believed to have been treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but was not taken to the hospital.

The residence suffered a partial roof collapse during the fire, Salazar said. As of 1 a.m Monday, crews were still on scene dousing hotspots in the front of the house and on the remaining roof. - Taos News

The moisture content of your firewood is very important. Part of our job as chimney sweeps in Taos and Santa Fe is to educate the public about this issue. Ideal moisture content of firewood is 20-25%. At that moisture content, a pound of firewood will put out 6200 BTU's of heat when it burns in your fireplace or wood stove. At 50% moisture (firewood that has been left out in the rain or snow,) the same pound of wood only puts out 4,000 BTU's. Burning wet or green wood increases creosote accumulation in your chimney, increasing danger and lowering performance. Please keep your fire wood dry. Do not burn "green" (not completely seasoned) wood.
