Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness
In early November Bailey's sent J.D. and Luke to clean and inspect my fireplace and clothes dryer vent. The work was completed quickly and competently, and I was impressed that the crew took extra precautions to keep my house clean. During his chimney inspection, J.D. noticed that mortar was missing between some flue tiles, and he showed me photographs he had taken of some of the problem areas. He explained that the spaces between the tiles could permit smoke and creosote to escape the flue, which could greatly increase the risk of a chimney fire. J.D. recommended removing the flue tiles and relining the chimney with a stainless steel liner to correct this problem. I agreed to make these repairs, and Chris, Izzy, and Luke came to my home a couple of weeks later to make the repairs. I had a lot of anxiety about this work, because I'm 74, so I'm in a demographic group that is targeted by unscrupulous people who pray on older adults ("you need a new roof, new chimney, new x, y, & z"...all at outrageous prices). So I had a lot of questions before and during the repair. I was impressed that everyone I spoke to at Bailey's, both the crew and the office staff, were completely willing to answer my questions to my satisfaction, even providing additional information that helped me understand what would be done, how it would be done, and why it was necessary. During the repairs the crew was always willing to let me look over their shoulder as they worked, and they helped me inspect the fireplace (from the bottom and the top) before, during, and after the work had been done. I watched as they began removing the flue tiles, and I could see for myself that smoke really had been deposited on the cinder blocks that contain the flue. In other words, the gaps between the flue tiles really had allowed smoke to escape., so the potential for a flue fire was real. After the repairs were completed, I saw for myself that as a result of the new, smooth flue liner, the "parging", and the other work that was completed, my chimney's interior was much smoother. This is important because it reduces turbulence in the flue gases (smoke, etc), and so my fireplace should "draw" better, leading to easier ignition, fewer maintenance issus, and better overall performance. The best part of this experience was Bailey's staff, all of whom were friendly, respectful, courteous, and competent. I have never had better repair/service people in my home than Chris, Izzy, J.D. and Luke. I wouldn't be able to think of a complaint or criticism even if you paid me. I won't pretend that these repairs were cheap. But the work took nearly two full days, and I'm sleeping better because...based on my own observations of the work that was done...I'm sure a chimney fire is now extremely unlikely. I recommend Bailey's Chimney services without reservation, and I will continue to use them to clean and maintain my fireplace and dryer vent.

Response from the owner:
Thank you for your detailed and thorough review. We really appreciate you taking the time to describe the process of a chimney restoration from your perspective. It's really helpful to us and also to our current and prospective clients.
I can't tell you how grateful I am that you've taken the time to write this.
Warm Regards,
Justin Bailey

This is why we video scan every fireplace chimney we sweep: A recent house fire in Taos Ski Valley started in the chimney. Over a million dollars of damage could have been prevented if the chimney sweep for this house had done his due diligence. Are you going to hire the cheapest chimney sweep, or the one who invests in the education and safety training that will prevent this kind of thing from happening?

You can’t smell it, see it, or taste it, but carbon monoxide (CO) can destroy your health or even take your life. A simple molecule, CO is produced by gas or wood burning appliances in your home. It becomes more dangerous in the winter, when your windows and doors are sealed shut and your heaters are running. A faulty venting system for a water heater, a furnace or a wood stove can turn your home into a health hazard due to CO poisoning.

In uncertain times, there are some things you can control. You may have already reduced the risk of a house fire by having us clean your chimney and dryer vent. If not, call us today to schedule your annual service. We’ve launched a new program this fall with the aim of eliminating your risk of CO exposure by checking your carbon monoxide detectors while doing your annual chimney service. If you don’t have a CO detector, or if yours is expired or nonfunctional, we can provide a new one for you.

Technicians at Bailey’s are now required to carry CO detectors with them. We sell them at our cost, with no installation charge. If we’re at your home to clean the chimney we will check your existing CO and smoke detectors to make sure they are working - and we don’t charge for that either. We also offer courtesy checks of your fire extinguishers and your dryer vent while doing annual chimney service.

Early symptoms of CO poisoning are a lot like flu symptoms: headache, nausea and lethargy. More advanced symptoms include permanent brain damage and death. Please forward this email to your friends and loved ones. Awareness about CO is the first step in protecting ourselves from it.

If we detect CO in your home, we can check all your vents and get to the root of the problem. But the first step is to have a functional CO detector in your home.

If you haven’t checked your CO detector, please do so. If you don’t have one, please get one. If you’ve already had us clean your chimneys this year, thank you for your business. CO detectors are available at most hardware stores, big box stores, and online.

If we haven’t checked your chimney and other vents yet this year, call us today and schedule your annual appointment. Our certified techs will check your vents, advise you on anything that can help protect you from fire danger or CO exposure, and provide CO detectors for your health and safety.

Wishing you a warm and safe holiday season,

Justin Bailey

A customer from today posted this review on our face book page and on our google places page:

WOW Baileys just saved the lives of my dog Samantha and I.....I called them to clean the chimney so I could use the fireplace this winter in the place I rent...they have a GREAT REPUTATION...THOROUGH CONSCIENTIOUS. So I was really pleased at the work they did on the fireplace... But here's the thing that may have saved our lives... Bailey's offers a free dryer vent exam when they clean your fireplace and chimney ....I asked them to look at mine and Justin found that the dryer vent was disconnected...and with a gas dryer that means carbon monoxide can be released INTO YOUR HOUSE...so we have been breathing it for awhile, and all that lint was blowing BACK INTO the dryer which is a major fire hazard. GEEZ I thought I was doing enough by cleaning the lint trap when I used it....nope. They are cleaning the whole thing now! Thanks Justin for going above and beyond the call of duty....Samantha and I are grateful.
